Pet Update - Phone Number!

Today, Kelsey & Tiffany scoured Uptown New Orleans and saved 5 cats and 4 dogs.

An issue developed between the hands-on individuals saving pets and the state beaureacracy. RED TAPE bullshit.

Please contact:

More excellent work. THANK YOU all for your strength & dedication.

When you're able to find time, would you please elaborate on what the state interference was all about?

Also, you may find this posting about Dr. White of interest: http://news.bestfriends.org/index.cfm?page=specialreports&catid=04061773-BDB9-396E-9001EF6EC01318A4&mode=entry&entry=517FF9C6-BDB9-396E-9E7EC0D9E101EC1C&stid=1

Hello you lovely Queens of Animal Hearts! So happy to see your pic & thanks for the update & for the hard work today. I've been very busy on this end, updating Craigslist.neworleans.pets with the efforts in St. Bernard Parish (new info on the website for Iberia Humane Society which gives great info - YAY!); and also updating the www.nola.com pet rescue forum as to your efforts, as are many others. We are working hard to rouse support for your ongoing rescue efforts, and for Dr. White's efforts as well. I've received a few emails from folks wanting to volunteer & folks wanting to donate, have directed them ALL to the Iberia HS website. WOOOHOOO! Better late than never I guess. Plus we're all still calling the Gov office, CNN, White House, etc. constantly, demanding more assistance. Gov's office today told me they are receiving thousands of calls concerning the NO pet rescue efforts EVERY day! CNN's Anderson Cooper did yet ANOTHER national segment today about the heroic rescue efforts there, and wants Mayor Nagin to explain WHY pets had to be left behind!? However, Mayor Nagin is now hanging out at his other home in TX, he's not even there in NO for Pete's sake. Friday night, on the Animal Planet Channel, 9 pm ET/PT, they are airing a show called 'Animal Planet Heroes: Hurricane Rescues', and it will highlight this historic effort to save the animals & some of the folks who are doing it. KEEP GOING, YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE, YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE AND THE COUNTRY IS WATCHING! THANK YOU! Deb In Portland

Thank you so much for helping the animals! I'm stuck here in Colorado wishing I could help more than just donate money. I'm so grateful for people like you who are saving animals, one by one. Thanks so much!!

It was a good day. However, every time I call an owner and tell them that we have their pet, they cry which makes me cry--Hey, I'm already dehydrated. Another rescuer arrived from Santa Monica today, so now y'all can hear about Leah. I seem to find these 6 foot tall California blondes. It does help at checkpoints.
I don't know what happened it St. Bernard except bureaucratic B.S.
Ms. Littlefield has ensured that Dr. White won't go back. By the way, he set up a shelter down there today.
Problem--we are running out of shelters. I am now sheltering animals at my mother's house.
Also, St. Mary's Humane Society is helping with cages. They have moved and are still under construction, so there is no office or WEB site. I'll get the P.O. Box number tomorrow if anyone wants to donate to them.
Thanks! It is an honor to do work like this. The irony of my life is that I work harder doing this than I do at a job I'm being paid to do.
Good night.

Are you telling me that Dr. White & your team can no longer rescue animals in St. Bernard's Parish!!?? I need to know right away, because I have referred people & made postings to craigslist and nola regarding the efforts in that area. WHO IS WORKING IN THAT AREA NOW IF YOU AREN'T?? Sorry, I'm just feeling a bit panic stricken & disheartened. I do need to correct the info I've posted at the nola website and on craigslist if Iberia & Dr. White are no longer participating in St. Bernard rescues. Good GOD, the infernal Govt bureaucracy in all of this has been the biggest damned hindrence to the rescue efforts. Well, Kelsey, keep your chin up and remember WHY you are doing this. Glad you have a California Amazon Goddess to assist! So thankful you are there to help, and thankful for your posts. If you could please give me ANY info on who is helping out in St. Bernard, or where to refer folks to if they need rescues in there, I would be appreciative! Your friend & fan, Deb in Portland

Deb
Check out the story on Best Friens site. This shit just happened today. My greatest hope is that you get a hold of Ms. Littlefield and she follows Mike Brown on the resignation list. Eric was pissed when I saw him this evening at the clinic. He wants to be there to help, but he doesn't do well with government bureaucracy. I think if more people read that article and know that this woman is DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for him not going back, something might change. He has set up a fund for the animals in St. Bernard, but if he's not the one doing the work, who's to say ASSHOLES like Sgt. Minion won't benefit from it. He doesn't have access to it , but the point is will the next person have Eric's heart and dedication?
It ain't over til the fat lady sings. Eric always says, "I've stared down the face of a 10,000 pound charging rinocerous, what you got?"
I think perspectives are different in the morning.

I don't know if this makes a difference to anyone; but rumor has it that Jefferson Feed on Jeff Hwy. is taking in animals and forwarding them to the big animal shelters in Gonzalez and Baton Rouge.

I spoke with Martha Littlefield's secretary, Jenel, who said that I'm misinformed about Dr. White being hindered in his efforts by ML. She has taken my name, number, and email address. I suggested that their office issue a press release stating that she is supporting the efforts of Dr. White & The New Iberia HS and clarify. I will pass it along if/when it arrives.

Yes, I spoke with Jefferson Feed. They ARE a staging area for getting animals to shelters. Very nice folks there. Kelsey, I have tried Dr. Littlefields number about 20 times and only get a busy signal. If I do get through, I will of course be polite & diplomatic, and urge them to support Dr. White's efforts in St. Bernard Parish (on craigslist.com, neworleans.pets, there is a post that the animals that were in the St. Bernard animal shelter were all shot dead and thrown into a big pile there, still remaining in the shelter. I of course cannot confirm this). I would also urge the State Vet's office to start getting some organized press releases out! I have also called the Gov, Senator Baosso (sp?), and the White House urging the same. Kelsey, you & your team keep up the good work, just do your best and try to ignore the b.s.. Every furry kid you save is honestly a victory, and seeing those pics of the ones you have rescued on the Ibera HS website is SO terrific! XOXO Deb in Portland

No return call or email was forthcoming from Marth Littlefield's office today. Big surprise.

Is this article in reference to Dr. White? http://katrinablog.msnbc.com/2005/09/late_start_on_p.html#below-fold
